Raelynn D. Parks is a New Mexico-based visual artist, elementary art teacher, and lifelong maker whose work spans fine art photography, painting, drawing, and mixed media.
Raelynn's love of painting began as a teenager — a practice she made time for through college and into her adult life. Teaching elementary art has only deepened that passion, pushing her to grow as an artist alongside her students every single day.
Her love of photography goes back even further, to childhood, when her parents gave her her first camera. She's been taking pictures ever since. For Raelynn, photography is painting with light and capturing moments in time. Whether she's behind a lens or holding a brush, the goal is the same: to capture a moment. From grand landscapes frozen in time to the quiet beauty of small everyday objects, her work finds meaning in what others might overlook.

How the work gets made
The creative process
Every piece begins with observation. Raelynn spends time in a place — or with a feeling — before she ever picks up a camera or brush. Her photography is largely intuitive, built around light and timing. Her paintings often begin with a photograph as a reference, then evolve into something more layered and personal through texture, color, and mark-making.
Observe & Research
Time spent in the landscape, the studio, or simply sitting with an idea before anything is made. Ideas are prayed about and references are contemplated so every image is well thought through.
Draw and Plan
Once ideas have been gathered then the first sketches begin where every detail is intentionally planned out.
Create
Painting and mixed media as a way to push beyond the photograph into something felt rather than seen.
